There isn’t much traditional uses & folklore around protein powders, but there is some! Did you know the history of whey (a purified protein source from animal milk) is said to have been discovered in about 5500 BC? Fast forward to the Victoria Era (~1837-1901) legume flours and vegetable albumins (a class of proteins) began to be popularized and used as supplements and health products. By the 1950s protein powders had become commercialized and more widely available. Starting around 1998-2000 pea and rice protein powders had gained attention and began their rise.
Today it is understood that the body operates off amino acids, the compounds that make up proteins and the source of protein isn’t as important as making sure your body is getting adequate amounts of the essential amino acids (EAA). EAA are the amino acids that the body must get from exogenous (out of the body) sources. Protein has always been understood as a critical component of human health, today we are lucky to live in a time where so many options are available to us to ensure we get enough of this critical macro-nutrient

Medicinal mushrooms have been valued in traditional healing systems for thousands of years across diverse cultures, long before modern science validated many of their properties. Here is an short summary of some of the uses across different cultures and timeframes.
In Ancient China, mushrooms featured prominently in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as far back as 100 BCE or earlier. Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum), known as the "mushroom of immortality" or "ling zhi," was prized for promoting longevity, strengthening Qi (vital energy), boosting immunity, calming the mind, and treating respiratory issues, fatigue, and chronic debility. Shiitake (Lentinula edodes) was used for nourishment and immune support, while others like Zhu Ling addressed fluid balance and detoxification.
In Japan and Korea, similar traditions drew from Chinese influences, employing reishi and shiitake for vitality, anti-aging, and disease resistance.
Ancient Greece records show Hippocrates (c. 450 BCE) using the amadou mushroom (Fomes fomentarius) as an anti-inflammatory and for cauterizing wounds.
Indigenous North American peoples applied puffball mushrooms (Calvatia spp.) as wound healers and styptics.
Mesoamerican Cultures (Maya, Aztecs) incorporated mushrooms, including sacred psychoactive species (Psilocybe spp.), in rituals for spiritual healing, divination, and physical ailments like fever or gout.
Siberian and Northern Indigenous groups used chaga (Inonotus obliquus) for infections, cardiovascular health, and general vitality.
Ötzi the Iceman (c. 3300 BCE) carried birch polypore (for infections) and tinder fungi.
Overall, traditional uses focused on immune modulation, anti-inflammatory effects, wound healing, energy restoration, longevity, and spiritual/emotional balance—reflecting mushrooms' role as adaptogens and tonics in holistic systems worldwide.
