Natural constipation relief used in TCM as a stimulant laxative for occasional or chronic constipation
Aloe ferox, commonly known as the bitter aloe or Cape Aloe, is a polymorphic aloe species indigenous to South Africa. Aloe ferox has been used since ancient times and has a well-documented history of use as medicine.
The bitter latex, known as Cape Aloe, is used as laxative medicine in Africa and Europe and is considered to have bitter tonic, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and anticancer properties.
The active ingredients belong to different classes such as polysaccharides, alkaloids, and anthraquinones. saccharides, enzymes, amino acids, and inorganic minerals. Anthrone-C-glycosides are considered typical of aloe bitters and are represented by aloin A and B, and are mainly responsible for the bitter and purgative properties.
