D-Ribose quickly restores depleted nucleotide pools, which include ATP, ADP and AMP, and improves overall heart and muscle function.

D-Ribose metabolizes into 5-phophoribosyl-1-pyrophosphate (PRPP) via the oxidative pentose phosphate pathway (PPP). PRPP is a key intermediate in the pathways of purine nucleotide formation and in the synthesis of pyrimidine nucleotides. However, a limiting step in the PPP is the glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) reaction. D-ribose supplementation is known to allow the body to bypass this limiting step and help restore depleted nucleotide pools at a faster rate.
